Fly Fishing in Ascension Bay Mexico
Ascension Bay is located to
the southwest of Punta Allen about 32 miles south of Tulum and in the heart of
the Sian Ka'an Biosphere. It is without a doubt the finest place in North
America to achieve a Grand Slam, or if you're lucky, a Super Slam. You will be
fishing the shallow flats surrounding Islas Tres Marias and Cayo Culebra,
waters so beautiful that the surroundings defy description. You will be wade
fishing in ankle deep, crystal clear water that covers a firm, white sand base.
You will have endless opportunities to cast to tailing Bonefish and Permit.
While fishing the mangroves that surround the islands shorelines, you will cast
to waiting Snook and cruising Tarpon. Cuda are also plentiful and easy to
catch.
If you have ever purchased a book on Saltwater Fly Fishing,
or magazines like Saltwater Fly Fishing or Fly Fishing in Saltwaters, you have
seen the pictures and read the incredible stories on the merits of Ascension
Bay. Let me tell you
they are all true. Ascension Bay is my hands down all
time favorite location to fish. It is the place I fish in my dreams. Why not
join me and discover Ascension Bay for yourself
you won't be
disappointed.

Tom; The trip was fantastic! Fishing was a bit
tough, as the water in the Mangroves was very red from all the rainfall the
previous days leading up to my trip. We did get into some bones as the attached
picture will show. I got along great with Alfredo, he has a great sense of
humor and was extremely knowledgeable about bonefishing. I enjoyed my first
bonefishing trip, and will pass along your information to any friends I have
that are visiting Cancun. If I ever find myself down your way again I would
love to spend another day fishing with Alfredo. Regards Bob Foote

PLEASE NOTE: You cannot compare Punta Allen to
Cozumel, Playa del Carmen or Cancun. Punta Allen is a small, somewhat primitive
Mexican fishing village at the end of a long, rough road. Telephones are few
and far between and hot water is a luxury. Punta Allen's main livelihood comes
for Lobster fishing. Lobster fishermen get up early and go to bed early.
Electricity is furnished by a local generator that operates approximately 16
hours a day. After 10:00 PM the village sleeps (mosquito nets are mandatory).
There are very few amenities in Punta Allen. There are a couple of small
restaurants that serve respectable food (fish tacos) and several Mini Supers
where you can get snacks and cold drinks and limited medical supplies. The
villagers are very friendly, always eager to say hola when you pass them on the
street but there is no nightlife for the party animal. All that being said, let
me state the fishing is World Class and after all, that is what you are going
there for. I can assure you, you will never forget Punta Allen or Ascension
Bay.
